Tom Lewis - 50 Years of Dedicated Service to the Royal British Legion

Mr Tom Lewis who joined the Royal Wootton Bassett Branch in September 1965 completed 50 years of dedicated service.

The mark this great achievement the Branch presented him with a Certificate – making him a Lifetime Honorary President of the Branch.  As well as being presented with a Royal British Legion engraved Shield he was also presented with a picture of himself taken by a Dakota, a plane of which he has great memories - being an ex-paratrooper.

During the 50 years of being a legion member, he serviced as Branch Chairman for 14 years, a job which, though it gives great pleasure at times, can also be a hard one, keeping everyone happy and keeping the branch running smoothly.

Over that time he became very involved in fund-raising from coffee mornings to dance evenings, bingo evenings and other various events and Rita, his wife, has always there to support him.  Another item he was involved in was the Garden of Remembrance, a project very dear to the hearts of all our members.

Tom always supports the Branch in whatever event is taking place and is always present at Remembrance time and in helping with Poppy Appeal.

To have been a Branch member for 50 years is a great achievement.
