Romsey Mountbatten

Welcome to the Romsey Mountbatten Branch of The Royal British Legion

About The Royal British Legion

We provide financial, social and emotional care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces - past and present and their families. The Legion is also the national Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the nation and its Armed Forces and is best known for the annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem the red poppy.

Founded on 25 May 1921, the Legion is not just about those who fought in the World Wars of the last century, but also about those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting for the freedom we enjoy today.

The Royal British Legion (from 1971) is the UK's leading Armed Forces charity and one of its largest membership organisations. Members get together through the network of branches and clubs all over the country and overseas to participate in social, fundraising and welfare activities.

Romsey Mountbatten Branch

Branch committee meets at 19:30 hours every two months in person or by using Teams video conferencing software.

On 21 August 2021, Romsey celebrated it centenary year.  Unfortunately all celebrations had to be cancelled due to covid restrictions.

In 2022, the Romsey branch took over the running of the Earl Mountbatten Memorial Service and at the Romsey Branch AGM in the same year, it was agreed that the branch would be known as Romsey Mountbatten branch.  The memorial service is usually held in Romsey Abbey on either the first or second Sunday in September.  In 2024 this service was open to the public, as covid restrictions were lifted.  The service will be held on Sunday 07 September 2025 at 15:00 hours.

Membership of the Royal British Legion is open to everyone. If you have an interest in the objectives of the Legion and want to help and support for those who have served and their families, come and join us. We welcome everyone of all ages, whether they have served in the Armed Forces or not.

Legion membership ensures that:

  • Remembrance is kept alive and that the sacrifices our brave Service men and women have made are never forgotten.
  • The ex-Service community has a voice and that their concerns are brought to the public eye.

The Romsey Mountbatten Royal British Legion has two aspects, the Branch and the Club. The two co-exist side by side with their own committees and presidents.

  • The Branch supports the charity work and works within the Royal Charter of incorporation and schedules.
  • The Club is the social aspect and is a business registered as a Limited Company within its own right but it supports the Branch in its charity work within its own set of rules.  The Club has its own website and can be accessed here https://www.romseyrbl.co.uk/
