The Retford and District Branch was first established in 1921. Current membership stands at 92.

The Poppy Appeal organiser initiated school visits to talk about the work of the Legion, 14 years ago.

In 2022, 38 schools welcomed these visits. A Retford Secondary School has hosted a poppy event in October every year for the last 8 years.
