Branch Community Support (BCS) is run by Royal British Legion (RBL) branches and aims to support the Armed Forces Community by delivering a range of activities through its Branch Community Supporters and Community Coordinators.
Branch Community Supporters aim to create a network of RBL members who can provide support to those living with social isolation and loneliness. This is achieved by way of Telephone Buddies and Home & Hospital Visits.
Telephone Buddies
You will be surprised how many people in our community have no family or are unable to speak to or see their family often enough. There are others that have social contact, may also be in a relationship or part of a family but still feel lonely.
By becoming a Telephone Buddy you can help give individuals an opportunity to talk to someone, experience companionship and be part of the community.
Home & Hospital Visitor
As a Home & Hospital Visitor, you can give individuals an opportunity to talk to someone, provide companionship helping that person to be a part of the community again. This consistency can bring routine into the person’s life and give them something to look forward to, at a vulnerable time.
Branch Community Coordinators aim to be a voice in the local community, they can host awareness events, give advice on local touch points as well as help with bereavement support. Each Branch can have a maximum of four Branch Community Coordinators.
Awareness Events
Be the voice in your local community by hosting an awareness event. These are a great opportunity to raise awareness of the Paphos Branch and the work we do. These events can also give valuable face-to-face time with others and is a fantastic way for non-members, veterans, and their families to learn about the Paphos Branch and the RBL in an informal way.
Here are some ideas for an RBL Awareness Event:
Coffee mornings, Picnics, BBQs, Afternoon tea, Community fun, Branch Comradeship and activity days.

Local Touch Points
You can help provide information to people in the Paphos community by directing them to where they may be able to access the help they need:

Bereavement Support
Being a bereavement Support Representative is a vital role that makes a huge difference to our bereaved Armed Forces families by helping with requests for RBL representation and a Standard Bearer from the Paphos Branch, providing a sense of comradeship in what is already a painful time and showing support by being present at the funeral.
