1944-themed Afternoon Tea with the Women's Section - 8th June 2024

This year, we mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, which took place on 6th June 1944.  As we remember D Day 80, the Oxted Royal British Legion, opposite Master Park, is holding 2 events over the weekend 8th-9th June 2024.

Experience 1944 with the Women’s Section, with a 1944-themed Afternoon Tea and a Ration Box competition for local school children.

The Women's Section is hosting a 1944-era ‘afternoon tea’ from 1.30 until 5pm.  As well as more traditional afternoon tea fare, there will be some 1944 stalwarts to try, such as spam sandwiches and eggless sponge.  There will be a display of World War 2 women’s uniforms, civilian dresses, children’s toys & clothes, domestic artefacts etc.  You can see what food rationing looked like and we will be showing the film 'The Longest Day’ in the background.  All are welcome and this is open to members and non-members.  Tickets are only £10 and are available via Eventbrite (link below).

We have invited the local schools to participate in a RATION BOX competition with 2 age groups – Years 1-3 and Years 4-6 – asking pupils to design a Ration Box and fill it with the rations for 1 adult for 1 week.  The final judging will take place during the afternoon. There will be a prize for each group, this will be a gift voucher to the value of £15.
