During the Second World War, there were a large number of Canadian soldiers stationed in the Oxted area.
These troops were to be found in Warlingham and in Whyteleafe as well as several other places in the vicinity.
One of these Canadian Regiments was the Loyal Edmonton Regiment, and there are several pieces of memorabilia in the Oxted Royal British Legion Club including plaques - one of which is shown here.
One of our cherished pieces of memorabilia is an original 1941 poster advertising, for the benefit of the local hospital, a football match and tug of war competition between the Edmonton Regiment and “Norman Fordham’s Locals” from the Oxted British Legion.
