Old Catton

The branch used to be merged with Sprowston to form the Old Catton and Sprowston Branch. Then in

2019 the branches were separated and Old Catton became a county-supported branch. In 2020, a

book of biographies of the 18 servicemen and women from Old Catton who fell in WW2 were published

and delivered by volunteers to every household in the village before the October Covid restrictions

began. With added detail which wasn’t able to fit into the book, these stories were printed on posters

throughout the village and formed a walking trail which village residents could follow in their own time,

observing Covid guidelines, during Remembrance fortnight. This brought the village together in a

shared act of remembrance, even in their own homes. From this, the branch membership increased

with enough people feeling moved to become more involved. This led to the election of a new

committee in February 2021, when the branch came out of County-supported status to stand alone.
