Welcome to the Nord / Pas de Calais Branch of The Royal British Legion
The Nord and the Pas-de-Calais, in northern France, have been the scenes of some of the 20th centuries worst conflicts. Today we live in peace, but surrounded by ‘silent cities’, the cemeteries that are constant reminders of that past. We feel it our duty to honour the memory of those who fought to free this land, and in so doing honour the men and women who fight for our freedom today.
We attend commemorations and reburials and support families throughout the year in remembrance of those who never went home. Ceremonies come in all shapes and sizes, from the grand city remembrance services to the placing of a flower in woodland where a soldier was last seen. After all, it does not matter how you remember, it matters that you remember. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
Here the Poppy Appeal runs throughout the year, through a series of collections at commemoration events, and through the support of local businesses.
If you would like to be a part of this, join us. Membership is open to everyone. You do not have to have served yourself in the Armed Forces and you do not have to live in the region. We look forward to welcoming you.
If you have any problems with our online joining, please phone 0808 802 8080 and one of our staff will be happy to process your membership application over the phone.
About The Royal British Legion
We provide financial, social and emotional care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces - past and present and their families. The Legion is also the national Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the nation and its Armed Forces and is best known for the annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem the red poppy.
Founded in 1921, the Legion is not just about those who fought in the World Wars of the last century, but also about those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting for the freedom we enjoy today.
