A commemorative initiative has been inaugurated by Mr Steve Trainor who is encouraging people in the town to get out and sew poppy seeds at work, school, in pub gardens, hotels, and other locations.
This will be a colourful tribute to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One this summer and commenced with a Poppy Scatter in a dedicated flower bed in Happy Mount Park, Morecambe on 14th February 2014, which was supported by the local MP, Mr David Morris and representatives of the local Ex-Service and local communities and local schools.
The aim of the project is to try to raise £136,904.30p, one penny for every service person killed in World War 1.
Poppy seeds are on sale now in various shops in the Arndale Centre, The Strawberry Basket in Heysham, Bare Pharmacy and the York Hotel.
Events can be seen on the Poppy Scatter Facebook page.
