Remembrance Sunday 2018
As part of the national "Battles Over" commemoration of the end of World War 1, there was a lament played by a Lone Piper at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday at 6-00am.
The Remembrance Sunday Parade and Commemorative Service took place on Sunday 11th November 2018. The Parade mustered at "The Platform" from 10-00am and the Parade moved off at approximately 10-40am.
After the Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph, the Parade re-mustered for the March-Past and Salute to the Fallen at the Cenotaph and dismissed at The Paltform. There was a reception provided by Lancaster City Council for all those taking part in the Parade inside "The Platform" and afterwards in the Branch Headquarters at the Cumberland View Hotel there was lunch and entertainment provided compliments of the Landlord, Mr Carl Pearson.
Continuing the national "Battles Over" commemoration, from 12-00 to 6-00pm on Remembrance Sunday afternoon there were several displays, performances and lectures in the Memorial Hall in Poulton Square, Morecambe and from 2-00pm to 4-00pm in Heysham Heritage Centre.
At 6-00pm there was a procession to carry the "There but not there" silhouette soldiers from the Memorial Hall to the Stone Jetty where there was a reading of the "Tribute to the millions" by the Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire at 6-50pm and a sounding of the Last Post prior to the lighting of a Beacon on the Stone Jetty and there was a similar Beacon lit on Heysham Village headland. There was then a ringing of church bells throughout Morecambe, Heysham and Lancaster.

The Morecambe & Heysham Branch led a Ceremony of Remembrance at the Globe Arena immediately before the 3-00 pm kick-off of the Football League Division 2 match between Morecambe FC and Barnet FC on Saturday 10th November 2012, when the Team Captains laid Wreaths on the Centre-Spot on behalf of both Clubs, prior to a Silent Tribute being observed. The Royal British Legion Standard was paraded alongside representatives of the Serving and Ex-Service Armed Forces taking part in the Act of Homage on the pitch.
The two Wreaths laid on the Centre-Spot by the Team Captains were subsequently laid on Morecambe Cenotaph.

In 2011, a similar ceremony took place at the Globe Arena when Morecambe FC played Sheffield Wednesday FC in the First Round of the FA Cup on the afternoon of Remembrance Sunday and Morecambe were narrowly defeated by two goals to one. The Wreaths laid on the Centre Spot by the Team Captains prior to the game were later placed on the Morecambe Cenotaph. Later in the evening of 10th November 2012, Morecambe Band held its annual Festival of Remembrance at "The Platform" on Marine Road, Morecambe commencing at 7-30pm. In the second half of the performance there was a Commemorative Service followed by "Community" singing. On this occasion, the Royal British Legion Lancashire County Standard Bearer, Mr Malcolm Brown, led the Parade of Standards and the Morecambe & Heysham Branch Standard was carried by Mr Stuart Moss.

The Two-minute Silence was observed at the Cenotaph, Marine Road Central at 11.00am on 11th November 2012 which this year was also Remembrance Sunday.
The Remembrance Sunday Parade mustered at "The Platform", Marine Road, Morecambe and moved off at 10-30 am. The Commemorative Service at the Cenotaph was led by Rev. Mike Peatman from Holy Trinity Parish Church, Morecambe.
A Family Remembrance Service also took place at 9-30 am in St Peter's Church, Heysham Village and was followed by a traditional Commemmorative Service commencing at 10-50 am with the laying of Wreaths at the Memorial in the Churchyard. The Services were led by the Legion Branch Chaplain Rev. David Tickner.
Following the Retiring Parade in Morecambe, light refreshments were enjoyed in the Platform for those taking part in the Parade, courtesy of Lancaster City Council. Some of the Parade participants then joined the members of the Royal Naval and Submariners Associations at the Commodore Club on Heysham Road.
The York Hotel again provided a chicken curry and a traditional beef stew for those taking part in the Morecambe Parade and entertainment was provided throughout the afternoon. Some pictures taken during the event can be seen here and on the York Hotel website.
