Renovation Update for RBL Mitcham
A New Chapter Begins
We’re thrilled to share some exciting news with our British Legion Members!
On June 21st, the leaseholders officially vacated the RBL premises, marking the beginning of a transformation journey of the Club Room. This cherished space, once known as “The Poppy Club,” underwent a complete renovation after years of gradual decline under the previous leaseholders. RBL Mitcham members and guests can look forward to a refreshing and inviting atmosphere in the main bar area.
Renovation Highlights to Date
The first stage of renovations began with the removal of all the furniture to enable a deep clean of the carpeted areas, this alone was a challenge in itself. Then we chose a color scheme that matches the recently renovated Coffee Hub area, aiming to create a cohesive and welcoming environment for all members.
In total, nearly 50 liters of paint were used to give the walls a fresh look with two coats. The wood architrave and doors were painted in a distinguished Royal Dark Blue, adding a touch of elegance to the interior. Wall décor was thoughtfully arranged, with the return of classic hanging pieces and the addition of new frames and plaques that reflect the club’s heritage.
Enhanced Features for Members’ Enjoyment
We repurposed the former dartboard area as a new cloakroom, providing members with additional convenience. The dance floor railings received a thorough cleaning and fresh coat of paint, while new curtains and nets brighten up the entire room. The bar area also underwent a deep clean to complete the refresh.
One of the standout features of the renovation is the 6-foot hand-painted figure of “Tommy” near the door. This striking artwork has already captured attention and become a focal point of pride in our new space.
Looking Forward
We hope our members enjoy the transformation as much as we do.
In the coming months, we’re planning to host events regularly, bringing more opportunities for members to enjoy the renewed space.
