About the Poppy Appeal
The Poppy Appeal is our flagship campaign held every year in October and November.
Founded in 1921, the Appeal raises funds for the Royal British Legion’s vital work supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families throughout their lives with whatever they need, whenever it’s needed.
Our support to those in need is made possible by the generous donations of the public and the 50,000 Poppy Appeal collectors and volunteers who dedicate their time each year to helping fundraise across the country.
In 2026, poppies will be available from 23 October at local supermarkets, high street shops, train stations or online at our Poppy Shop.
The simple act of wearing a poppy sends a personal message of thanks and support for the Armed Forces community to see, and we ask the public not to underestimate the impact that wearing a poppy has for those who serve and their families.
Local Poppy Appeal Organiser
A Poppy Appeal Organiser plays a vital role in enabling local communities to raise funds to support veterans, serving personnel and their families.
As an individual, or a representative of a group, club, or business they coordinate fundraising activities in our local area with the support and guidance of a Community Fundraiser (CFR) or Fundraising Relationship Assistant (FRA).
Our local Poppy Appeal Organiser is a key point of contact for our community before, during and after the Poppy Appeal, and will help raise awareness of the services and support the Royal British Legion provides for the Armed Forces community.
Poppy Appeal Collector
Could you help collect for the poppy appeal, be part of a volunteer team, supporting the Local Poppy Appeal Organiser, wether just a couple of hours or more, any help is appreciated and is valuable to the appeal.
Poppy Appeal Collectors have been at the heart of the Poppy Appeal for over 100 years, helping raise funds across the country to support the Armed Forces community.
As a collector you will take donations from the public at various locations and events in your local Town of Margate, during the Poppy Appeal in October and November, and at other fundraising events throughout the year.
