Lurgan and District Poppy Appeal 2024

Following the retirement of Mrs Roberta McNally BEM, our long-serving Poppy Appeal Organiser, the Lurgan and District Poppy Appeal for 2024 will be organised collegiately by the Lurgan and Brownlow RBL Branch and Club Committees.

However, as we all know any project must be the overall responsibility of one individual, so, this task falls to the Lurgan and Brownlow Branch Secretary/PRO Mrs Elizabeth Maginnis.

As has been proved in the past, ventures such as the Poppy Appeal rely heavily on people who are willing to voluntarily assist the organisers. So, with regard to volunteers for the Lurgan and District Poppy Appeal 2024, any volunteers who so ably assisted Roberta over the years are extremely welcome to come on board with the ‘new team’, and, rest assured that we will genuinely utilise your expertise and advice regarding the ‘lived experience’ of collecting for the Poppy Appeal to the full.

And for any 'newbies' who have not volunteered in the past, you too will be welcome to join us on this new chapter in the history of Lurgan and Brownlow RBL.

Lurgan and Brownlow Branch and Club Committees are extremely conscious that, in taking on the Lurgan and District Poppy Appeal, we be standing on the shoulders of the giants of the past – luminaries such as Leonard McCreanor, Joe Fulton, Vennard King, Ada Rollins, Cecil Robb, Bertie Harland, Albert Houston, Cecil Ward, and of course, Roberta, spring to mind - but, with your advice and assistance I’m certain that the Lurgan and District Poppy Appeal for 2024 can be a great success.

So, if you are an experienced Poppy Appeal Volunteer, or a complete novice like many of us, and you feel that you can assist the Lurgan and District Poppy Appeal in 2024, then please contact Elizabeth on:

or give her a bell on:

The Poppy Appeal ‘proper’ for 2024 starts on 24 Oct, but we will be looking at the practicalities well ahead of that, so an early indication of Volunteers would be appreciated.

There is an old Chinese saying that ‘a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step’!  We have taken that first step, thus there is no turning back…but let us see where that journey takes us!!! 😉
