The Royal British Legion was formed in 1921 with the Loughborough branch being established on 12th January 1922 and is therefore one of the oldest branches established.
The Legion is the custodian of remembrance which is celebrated each year in November. With the passage of time, there are now no WW1 veterans and very few WW2 veterans, but it’s not about the world wars – it’s about the soldiers who gave their all in conflicts since and those who returned having served the nation in an attempt to protect the freedoms we enjoy today.
The Loughborough branch is still going and is key in assisting the Borough Council in putting on one of the largest services in the UK, held at the Carillon.
