The Royal British Legion is recognised as the national custodian of Remembrance.

Remembrance Sunday, the second Sunday in November, is the day traditionally put aside to remember all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today.

Draycott

South Street Draycott Memorial Garden. 1st November 2024. Every year there is a service to commemorate the Great War Fallen of Draycott. The children of Draycott Primary School attend and as Tony Bryan reads out the 56 names of those who died in the Great War from Draycott a child lays a painted stone they have done in school, you can just make them out in the background.

Hamilton Road Memorial and Long Eaton Cemetery

On Sunday 3rd November the Sea and Army Cadets, a few Branch Members including John P. Irwin, John Sewell, Phil Twells, Claire Smith carrying the Branch Standard gathered in Hamilton Road for the Annual Remembrance of the 18 names on the Memorial. Tony Bryan gave an address, because we had no bugler Phil Twells blew a whistle for the start and finish of the silence. An Army Cadet laid the Branch Wreath and Tony got A Junior Sea Cadet to dismiss the parade, she looked very pleased with herself. We then paraded over to the Cemetery.

Remembrance Sunday 

At Westgate waiting to go on parade three generations of the Platt Family who all served in the Army. Syd - Joined the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders in 1946, served in Palestine, then India in 1947, then Hong Kong, Korea 1950 (in the wheelchair) Dave's Dad.

(Left) Tim, Dave's son joined the WFR Infantry in 1997, Bosnia and Kosovo operations, Sniper in Ireland, Close Observation Platoon.

(Right) Dave joined the REME workshop Chilwell in 1979, as an A Mech tanks his expertise,        Chieftain, Challenger, Warrior, 432s etc joined the TA in 1982, then 9 years regular service           then specialist REME battalion Bordon, then 49 Brigade HQ Warrant Officer, 2 Bosnia tours in 1995, 34 years service.

There was 46 wreathes laid on the War Memorial, and about 600 on parade and a large crowd of the public.

Tony Bryan Parade Marshal helped the Erewash Borough Council plan the parade and service.
