WW1 COMMEMORATIONS DVD
The centenary commemorations of the outbreak of WW1 in 2014 were recorded for the Branch.
Anyone wishing to purchase a copy of the DVD at a cost of £10.00 should contact Jennifer Tait. A great souvenir. Well done to Harry Steele for all his hard work in the production of the DVD.
BUS TRIP TO SOMME HERITAGE CENTRE, NEWTOWNARDS
On 27 January 2015 the winners of our WW1 Youth Competition were treated to a tour of the Centre which brings to life the experiences of local troops during WW1.
Some members of the Branch and guests also came along.
St. Mary's High School was the only school that submitted entries to the competition and those entries were judged in two categories; art and written work.
In the art category the winners were:
Eoin Mc Dermott, Jake O'Kane and Ellie O'Hara with entries from Aaron Fleming and Bronagh Murray being worthy of mention.
The winning written entries came from:
Jake O'Kane, Melissa Fenlon and Charlotte McDonald.
Congratulations to the winners and well done to everyone who took part.
Transport was funded through Limavady Borough Council's Good Relations Programme.
The afternoon was rounded off with a lovely lunch in the Tullyglass House Hotel, Ballymena.

WW1 COMMEMORATIONS 2014
We held a weekend of WW1 Commemorations. The Field of Remembrance was planted with Remembrance crosses for each name on the War Memorial in preparation prior to a Service of Rededication and Remembrance on Monday 4 August. And remarkably the poppies which had been planted were in full bloom too.
Saturday 2 August
Despite the atrocious weather we were able to put on a good afternoon displaying military memorabilia and loads of posters and photographs. We were treated to war poems and singing from Bobby Forrest whose Dad served in WW1 as well as more contemporary music provided by Limavady Big Band. All the ex-service associations were there with their stands and even with their original uniforms!
Those of us who could dressed in period costume and there was a competition for the best. Very deserved winners received gift vouchers.
All those who attended appreciated the exhibits and explanations of unfamiliar items.
Thank you to all who contributed in any way, those who helped set up behind the scenes and most of all thank you to our local community for supporting us.
oOoOo
We would like to congratulate Julie Brolly proprietor of Cafe Piazza in Limavady who dressed her premises in WW1 memorabilia, sand bags and camouflage netting to show her support for the commemorations. Even her staff were in WW1 dress.

Sunday 3 August 2014
Reverend David Mc Beth and the congregation of Bovevagh Parish Church invited the local ex-service community to a special service to commemorate the casualties of WW1 and especially Able Seaman Charles Mc Conaghy who was killed on 6 August 1914, just 2 days after the commencement of The Great War when HMS Amphion hit a mine. Charles's family home was on Straw Road and that is where the parade formed up.
Local scouts and Girl's Brigade members also paraded. Inside the Church and in the Church Hall items of WW1 military memorabilia were on display.
The congregation were then treated to a lovely lunch.
