Memorials of Lee on the Solent
Owing to the historic links between the Armed Forces and Lee on the Solent the town has several memorials, commemorative stones and plaques located within the boundaries, most notably:
- The a War Memorial Garden with a cross that lists names of locals who died in both World Wars. This is the location for the annual Remembrance Sunday Parade/Service.
- A Fleet Air Arm memorial on the seafront that commemorates over 1,900 servicemen and one woman who died in WWII with no known grave.
- A memorial plaque on a building used by the WRNS during WWII which suffered a "friendly fire" incident when a stray anti-aircraft shell landed on the building and killed a number of the WRNS. personnel living there.
