Branch Chairs Welcone

I would like to welcome you all to the Larnaca Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) here in Cyprus. The branch was formed in 2007 and has grown in number over the years. As we enter 2025 and my third year as chair, I am immensely proud of the work that the committee and members have done over the years, raising funds for the Poppy Appeal and other charities in Cyprus and beyond.

Looking ahead, there is still more to be done. As the number of UK veterans moving to Cyprus continues to increase, our role in supporting them, as well as current serving personnel and their families, presents challenges. However, this is also immensely rewarding for the whole team.

We have a fun-packed year ahead with many events, including celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE Day in May and VJ Day later in the year. Less we forget the annual Festival of Remembrance in November and the incredibly famous Poppy Ball, which raises a fantastic amount of money for those in need.

The RBL is open to everyone; you don't have to have served in the Armed Forces or even be from the UK. We are a group of like-minded people living here on a wonderful island, enjoying the sun, sea, and the social events that the RBL organises throughout the year for everyone, whether young, old, or unsure of their age. Why not join the committee if you want to get more involved? We are always seeking volunteers to help organise activities, such as supporting Santa at Christmas and selling hot dogs and drinks at the monthly car boot sale.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Dhekelia Station and thank the Station Commander and our president for all the support they have provided to the Larnaca Branch during my time as chair. I hope our bond continues to grow stronger each day and lasts far into the future.
