The Branch was first established in 1927 and from the moment of its inception has held a special place
in the towns history. The Royal British Legion has contributed to its character and culture through
events in the FEVA festival, as well as a number of market stalls and several social events. To
commemorate the end of WW1 the Branch commissioned and erected a special bench situated close
to the beautiful War Memorial on Knaresborough’s historic Castle Top, in addition a plaque was placed
on the wall of Knaresborough Castle grounds.
Naturally its focus is the annual Poppy Appeal culminating in the organisation of Knaresborough’s
Remembrance Day in the grounds of the iconic Knaresborough Castle preceded by a parade through
the town with standards flying and the band playing.
