VJ80 Anniversary - Commemorations & Celebrations
We believe that the Victory in Japan 80 years ago should be both commemorated and celebrated.
As part of the commemorations, a Service of Rememberance was held at Kippax War Memorial on Friday 15th August where the Union Flag was raised and wreaths laid. On the evening of the same day, a beacon was lit in both rememberance of those who gave their lives in the Far East and as a symbol of the peace they fought for.

To celebrate the anniversary of the end of the War, on Saturday 16th August, five brave members of our Committee, two Committee wives and one Committee daughter, took to the streets of our village in full 1940s costume and, with the backing and assistance of the management teams of three of our local public houses, put on a little 1940s dance display while raising money for this year's Poppy Appeal.
