Kenilworth Branch History

As we move towards our 100th Anniversary we are looking to bring together more information on the Branches rich history within the Town, below are some of the key dates:

May 1919 - Branch of the British National Federation of Discharged and Demobilized Sailors and Soldiers formed at a meeting at The Globe

October 1920 - Land leased in School Lane, permission granted by KUDC to put up buildings

December 1920 - Surplus army huts erected in School Lane

January 1921 - Club premises officially opened

May 1921 - The Club became part of the British Legion on its formation

1928 - Women’s branch formed at Abbey Hotel

1930 - Has 269 members

1940 - Globe is still their base until the landmine

1947 - Move to the Virgins and Castle as their HQ, reinstate the carnival to raise funds for themselves

1972 - Purchase the old Police HQ in Albion Street as HQ and Club

2014 - The Club disaffiliated from the RBL, becoming the Copper House Club, but the Branch, much reduced in number, continued to meet at the Club.
