The Royal British Legion, Illogan Branch, was formed on June 28 th 1921 when the Branch of the Comrades of the Great War accepted the constitution of the British Legion, as it was then called.

The initial 140 members decided to build a Branch HQ and a 30 foot square hut was purchased from the dynamite works at nearby Hayle for £30 and erected in Alexandra Road , Illogan. Contributors to the fund provided memorial stones which were placed in the base of the entrance porch. On 23 rd October 1923 , this new Branch HQ was formally opened by Colonel Sir Courtney Vyvyan.

The Branch had always had a great interest in playing soccer and as a consequence in 1924 it purchased a field from Viscount Clifden's Lanhydrock Estate for £30. This then allowed branch members to play regularly, with the result that Illogan FC was soon formed and are, in fact, still playing successfully in the local leagues today!

A social club was also built on the ground and a new title of the Illogan RBL Football & Social Club was agreed. This development meant that the original Branch HQ became redundant and so was subsequently passed to the village parish council. The historic memorial stones were removed and then reinstalled in a specially constructed plinth at the entrance to the combined soccer ground, social club and Branch HQ. Branch No. BR2252
