Greenhead Park

The "Train in the Park" runs on Saturdays and Sundays from March until Halloween, but the miniature railway opened on Monday, 17th April 2017 - Easter Monday, and the operators, Huddersfield Society of Model Engineers (HSME) ran the train for the Mayor of Huddersfield's chosen charity. All money raised by the train on that day was donated to the Royal British Legion.

The Mayor, Cllr Jim Dodds and his wife Carol, along with members of the RBL were the first passengers of the day on the miniature railway.

The Huddersfield branch of the RBL also had a table at the 'station' entrance and the generous people of Huddersfield added to monies collected by HSME by making donations and taking away goodies by way of a thank you.

Several members of the British Legion manned the table throughout the day and enjoyed a walk in the park during some of the quieter periods - although none of the members ventured into the fairground to try out the various rides and attractions on offer.

At closing time the Treasurer of Huddersfield Society of Model Engineers, David Peace, presented the Chair of the British Legion, Sue Bevan, with all the money raised during the day - a very welcome £200. A huge thank you must go to the volunteers of HSME for supporting the Mayor's chosen charity.
