Each year the Mayor of Kirklees announces which charity he/she will be supporting during their year in office.
This year, the Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Jim Dodds, BEM, has picked the Royal British Legion for his chosen charity.
There are a number of charity events planned throughout the year to raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause. Fundraising events will be advertised in the local press, but to mention a few:

Cllr Dodds has also produced a fund-raising 18-month calendar which is to honour all those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in serving the country, but especially those who have recently lost their lives in Afghanistan.
