Victory in Europe 80th Anniversary - 8th May 2025

Two events to mark the 80th anniversary of VE DAY took place.

The first was a two minute silence in the Market Place, Horncastle. This was one of many across the country as the nation fell silent at midday in remembrance of all those that had fallen.

The second was a Commemoration Service at St Mary's Church, Horncastle. 80 lanterns were carried into the church in recognition of the 80th anniversary. 

At 6.30pm the church bells start to ring out joining the ringing of all church bells across the country. The Standards were paraded into a packed church before the service began.
