"They shall not grow old”

The branch commemorated the one hundredth anniversary of the Great War in poignant way which I am sure the families and soldiers from one hundred years ago would be proud.

Friday 9th November members from the branch attended a service at the church with the children from Crawford's; Reynolds, Hayward and Moss whose graves are located in the churchyard had a cross placed on them by a member of the school. After the service we joined the children for lunch at the school were year 6 served us.

Over 250 people joined us on remembrance Sunday to remember those that sacrificed their today for our tomorrow. Joined by the scouts, parish council, Palmers bakery of Haughley and many other local groups we marched from the post office to the church giving a dignified eyes right as we passed the memorial.

Once all were seated the service of Remembrance began with the Rev Brin Singleton welcoming the congregation. During the service each name on the memorial was read out by our president Major A Morris AAC. As the name was read out a candle was distinguished and a poppy laid at the altar. Mr Buttle emotionally recited the Epitaph with much emotion amongst the well knitted community of today.

Standards gathered at the rear of the memorial following the service where wreaths were placed by the village organisations at the foot of the memorial. Afterwards the branch members gathered at the Cedars Hotel for lunch.
