GYMATHON & 10K RACE BY BRANCH MEMBER

GYMATHON & 10K RACE ON YORKSHIRE DAY

Branch Chairman, Andrea Waldron, completed a sometimes gruelling Gymathon Round Britain Challenge and ending the fundraiser with a 10k Race in York on Yorkshire Day (1st August for those not from these parts!).

In aid of the Harrogate Branch Royal British Legion and the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Fund Andrea started the Challenge on 19th May at the Harrogate Squash and Fitness Club.

The challenge was arranged by the Gym to motivate members but Andrea decided to put the hard effort to good work by raising money at the same time.  The challenge at the gym ended on 31st July and it seemed fitting to add the Jane Tomlinson Run for All 10k Run in York, on Yorkshire Day as the final event.

As a serving Army Cadet Officer badged Yorkshire Regiment, Andrea also wanted to raise money for the lads coming home from Afghanistan particular to her Regiment.

The details of what had to be done in the Gym are in a photo below and this was completed on 29th June.

The York 10k was not much fun!  Having lost over 4stone in the last 2 years, Andrea is still not a racing snake and having walked 5km to get to the start line then set off on the 10k half an hour after the start time she managed to pass 630 other competitiors, coming over the finish line some 68mins later.

Andrea said "after an awful start with ending up walking, it took some effort to get going on the race and it was the sponsor money that kept my feet moving!  Once in my stride things were better and managed to complete in a respectable time."

Lots of Andrea's colleague at work, the Army Cadet Force and the Branch have pledged £360.00 to be split equally between the two charities.

Great North Run next??????
