Hardwicke and District Ypres 100 km March
Hardwicke and District Branch
members take part in the "100KM van Ieper". This event is held
annually in the Belgian City of Ypres and the Branch has now
established it's attendance at this event on an annual
basis.

This event enables members of
Hardwicke and District Branch to promote and experience, at
first hand the values of the Royal British Legion. Three
important values, Comradeship, Fundraising and Remembrance are
a common thread, amongst others, throughout the march in which
members are challenged to march 100km around the Great War
City of Ypres.

Marching
Branch member Roger Smith, who
organises this Branch event each year is a veteran of over 30 years
marching at Ypres. Definately a "few miles on the clock" an
still going strong.

The 2011 team, led by Roger raised over £700 towards our record
breaking 2011 Poppy Appeal.

Throughout the Ypres 100km, our members are literally
marching through the history of the Great War. The march takes
place around the whole area of what was the Ypres
Salient. This enables us, not only to pay our respects to the
fallen but to also learn about the conflict and the men and women
who took part. Team members also represent our Branch
and Community each night at 8.00pm at the Menin Gate for Last
Post Ceremony.
Hardwicke and District Branch will
once again be entering a team in the next "100km March" to be
held over the weekend of 18th, 19th 20th May 2012.
