With time-honoured tradition, Christmas and the New year were celebrated with much fun and frivolity at Greens Norton British Legion Club.

This Remembrance weekend saw an extra reason to recall the past for the members of Greens Norton Royal British Legion, the only British Legion Club left in Northamptonshire which still has it own building.

In 1952 the Legion was given a piece of land in the village by the Basford family for the Royal British Legion Club to establish its own premises. Members at the time drove over to a local airfield and picked up a surplus to requirements army hut which it converted into a Clubhouse.  From that time on, the facility has served a very welcome purpose in the village under the auspices of the RBL and its associated Social Club and today is far more than the basic hut first collected.

On Sunday 12 November 2012, following the Remembrance Day Service at St Bartholomews Church, another ceremony took place in the grounds of the Clubhouse to lay a commemorative Time Capsule to mark the 60th birthday of the British Legion in the village.

Over the weekend a Poppy Appeal Bingo and a barbecue supper helped to boost the collections for the 2012 Poppy Appeal in the village and thanks go to all who helped or supported these events in any way and added to this very worthwhile cause.
