Minutes of the Meeting: Held 17 June 2015

Present: There were 16 members and 4 guests present.

1. ACT OF HOMAGE

The Chairman gave the exhortation to all the fallen

Apologies were received from 3 members

3. ADDITIONS TO THE AGENDA

  • Jeffrey Long (84) Charity walk (see pamphlet). The Branch will donate £20. Treasurer to action.

4. MINUTES OF THE BRANCH MEETING HELD 20 May 2015

Proposed by Steve Lee, seconded by Margaret Stracey, that the minutes of the previous meeting be passed as read.

5. MATTERS ARISING

  • Steve Bush: Armed Forces Day Sheffield:
    Sheffield Armed Forces Day takes place on Saturday 20th June.

Timetable:

11:30 am Veterans form up. Norfolk Row

11:45 am Disabled Veterans form up. St Paul's Parade

11:50 am Parade via Fargate into Peace Gardens

12:00 noon Ceremony in Peace Gardens

12:30 - 4:00 PM Peace Gardens: 1940's style entertainment

A big band and a local singer with dancing for all.

  • Walter Whiteley: VJ Day Sheffield:

VJ Day Commemoration will take place on Saturday 15th August. There will be a Wreath Laying Ceremony in Barkers Pool at 11am.

6. CORRESPONDENCE

7. TREASURER'S REPORT

  • RBL Account

    • £378.44 (£119 to be deducted for members fees)

The Treasurer reported that a technical hitch has led to the branch withdrawing from LOMAS for the immediate future. Normal service should be resumed early next year.

  • 3rd Wednesday

    • The full range of Poppy Sale items has now been ordered, consisting of over 1000 jewellery pieces and a wide range of related paraphernalia. The total cost is just under £10K.

The Teasurer and The Chairman will meet shortly to finalise Poppy Sales details.

8. NEW MEMBERS

The Chairman welcomed the following new members:

  • Jose Steele

  • Brian Marshall

There was a discussion on the recruitment of younger veterans and civilians.

9. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

  • Nostell Priory: There will be a social event at Nostell Priory on Saturday 20th June. The Chairman will represent the branch.

  • Poppy Sales 2015: Dave Warburton has been in contact with the relevant Supermarkets and arrangements are well in hand.

  • Poppy Sales 2014: The County Conference, held on 13th June, reported a 14% increase in poppy sales across the county. Moss Elliott handed across £100 from his winter poppy sales.

  • Welfare: The Chairman asked for the details of any welfare cases to be given to himself or the Secretary, so that appropriate action can be initiated.

  • Sheffield Fayre: The Branch Gazebo, along with the new “Live On” banners, will be in Norfolk Park on 30th and 31st August, 10:30 – 17:30

  • Office 365: The introduction of Office 365 has been delayed. More details will follow when it becomes available.

  • Frecheville Memorial: Bill Carline reported that work has begun on the monument and plans are in place for an opening ceremony on 15th August. The branch standard will be present.

  • Sponsorship: Alan Walker will be “Walking the Dales Way” on August 8th to raise money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance. He can be sponsored at:
