4. MINUTES OF THE BRANCH MEETING HELD 20 May 2015

Proposed by Gwen Wilkinson, seconded by Derek Wilkinson that the minutes of the previous meeting be passed as read.

5. MATTERS ARISING

  • Armed Forces Day Sheffield:
    The AFD Parade held on 20th June was a success, as was the Pie'n'Peas Lunch afterwards

  • Frecheville Memorial Update. The Frecheville Memorial will be unveiled on Saturday 15th August (VJ Day). The Parade will form up in Heathfield Road, facing The Birley Hotel at 10:15am. Marshalls will be present. Branch members are encouraged to attend.

  • Charity Rugby League Match: The Branch Chairman and Secretary, along with members from other branches, attended a Charity Rugby League match at Odsel Stadium, Bradford, on Sun 28th Jun. The “Armed Services Ladies' RL Team” took on the “England Universities Ladies' RL Team” before the Bradford Bulls played a league match against Batley Bulldogs. In excess of £6K was raised for the RBL by bucket collections, poppy sales and shirt auctions

  • Repeated from last month VJ Day Sheffield:

VJ Day Commemoration will take place on Saturday 15th August. There will be a Wreath Laying Ceremony in Barkers Pool at 11am.

  • RBL Fund £285.84

  • 3rd Wednesday Fund £163.50

8. NEW MEMBERS

  • The Chairman welcomed Keith Parkin, a former member of the Royal Army Pay Corps

9. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

  • The Chairman read a series of informative extracts from the S&W County newsletter

  • Details of a “Battle of Britain” Day commemoration event at Yorkshire Air Museum, in Elvington near York, were given. This will take place on Sunday 6th September.

  • Members are asked to take part in an online “Volunteers Survey”, to help determine the future path of this essential service.

  • Congratulations to June Lowe on being accepted into the Royal Hospital, as a Chelsea Pensioner, in October of this year.

  • Sheffield Fayre: The Branch Gazebo, along with the new “Live On” banners, will be in Norfolk Park on the Bank Holiday Weekend, 30th and 31st August, 10:30 – 17:30

  • Office 365: The Chairman will investigate the current situation of the Office 365 rollout.

10. OTHER BUSINESS

  • Proposed by Dave Warburton, seconded by Albert Austin, that the Branch sponsors Alan Walker on his Dales way Walk in August in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance, to the sum of £25. Carried

  • Walter Whitely gave a brief overview of “Battle of Britain” Day commemorations in Sheffield. Further details will follow.

  • Dave Warburton gave an update on Poppy Sales arrangements for Crystal Peaks. The question of insuring stock was raised. Chairman will clarify.
