SOLEMN MASSES - Remembrance Day, 1922 was the date that Formby's War Memorial was unveiled and memories of those who made the 'ultimate sacrifice' were still fresh as the mass crowds attest.
Bernie Prescott of Formby Parish Council was doing some gardening at the War Memorial when he noticed an old light on the lamppost. Bernie thought it would be a great idea to have it reinstated and to shine on the Memorial, He made contact with the Highways department who thought it was a good idea too.
The Highways department put Bernie in touch with a lighting company, W. T. Jenkins. Bernie met up with Steve Murray of W. T. J. and said if the Parish Council got it all passed and sorted the trenches to be dug either side, that he would supply and fit the lights for free.
They didn't have an available white light so used a blue one instead and decided it had a good impact and decided to leave it blue.
