The History of the Royal British Legion in Ferryhill

The Ferryhill Station Branch was first established in 1947.

There already was a British Legion Branch in Ferryhill in 1947.  This was the Ferryhill and Dean Bank Branch which formed in 1921.  One of the founding members of this Branch was World War One Veteran John Kennedy MBE, the great grandfather of the Ferryhill Poppy Appeal Organiser Clare Metcalfe.

There was a period of ten years when Ferryhill actually had three branches.  The third Branch, Ferryhill and Chilton, opened in 1967 but closed in 1977.
