Our Chairman – Mr Paul Holyoake
Paul’s connection to service began in 1966 when he joined the Air Training Corps, rising to Cadet Warrant Officer before leaving in 1970. During those early years, he and his fellow cadets regularly supported the Royal British Legion in Birmingham by volunteering for the Poppy Appeal.
In 1971, Paul joined the Royal Air Force as an RAF Policeman, serving for twelve years before moving into a new career in the gas industry. A change of scenery brought him south in 1997, when he settled in Hythe and became a member of the Fawley RBL Social Club and Branch.
Paul quickly became active in Branch life, serving on the Club Committee and later taking on the role of Club Chairman. He went on to join the Branch Committee, supported Pam with her Poppy Appeal area and represented the Branch as Standard Bearer for nine years, proudly carrying the Standard until ill health required him to step aside.
Today, Paul continues to serve as Branch Chairman and Members Secretary. He also helps organise two local Poppy Appeal areas and plays a central role each month at the Waterside Veterans Coffee Club, providing a welcoming space for veterans to meet. Alongside this, he calls and hosts the club’s weekly bingo and regularly attends local events to promote the many benefits of joining the Royal British Legion.
Paul’s long-standing commitment, steady leadership and genuine care for the community remain at the heart of the Branch.
Our Secretary – Lisa Smith
The smooth running of the Fawley & District Branch is due in no small part to the dedication of Lisa Smith, whose organisation and calm, friendly approach help keep everything on track.
Lisa brings extensive experience from her professional life in horticulture, hospitality and community work, and she applies those same strengths to her role as Branch Secretary. Her attention to detail, clear communication and ability to bring people together ensure that members remain well informed and supported throughout the year.
Her work extends far beyond administrative duties. Lisa supports the Chairman and committee, helps maintain strong links with local schools, groups and organisations and plays an active part in creating a welcoming environment for members. She also contributes to the Waterside Veterans Coffee Club, helping ensure the sessions remain friendly, inclusive and enjoyable.
Lisa has a natural talent for organising events, and many of the Branch’s successful activities — from seasonal gatherings to community fundraising — benefit from her thoughtful planning and practical approach. Whether preparing notices, producing communications or quietly keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes, she brings warmth and professionalism to every task.
Her dedication, good humour and steady support make Lisa an invaluable member of the Branch and a reassuring presence for our community.
Our Treasurer – Mrs Lucy Pullin
Lucy volunteers for the Royal British Legion out of a deep respect for its mission and an unwavering belief in supporting veterans and their families. For her, giving her time is a way to honour those who have served and to help ensure they receive the recognition, care and support they deserve.
Her connection to the Legion runs throughout her family. With a son currently serving, a husband who is a veteran and grandparents who devoted many years to their local Branch committee, service and support have long been at the heart of her family life. This strong sense of tradition and camaraderie inspires her continued involvement today.
Lucy enjoys being active in the local community and finds her role on the Fawley RBL Branch Committee both meaningful and rewarding. Her commitment, compassion and practical good sense make her an integral part of the team.
