Find out more about our Chairman, Mr Paul Holyoake.
I joined the Air Training Corps (ATC) in 1966 and rose to the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer, leaving in 1970. During my time with the ATC, we regularly supported the local Royal British Legion in Birmingham, volunteering to sell poppies each year.
In 1971, I joined the Royal Air Force as a RAF Policeman, serving for 12 years before starting a new career in the gas industry.
In 1997, I moved to the south and settled in Hythe, where I became a member of the Fawley RBL Social Club and Branch.
I quickly took an active interest in the social side, joining the Club Committee and, after a few years, taking on the role of Club Chairman. I later joined the Branch Committee and supported Pam with her Poppy Appeal area. I proudly served as Standard Bearer for nine years, until a heart attack forced me to step down from the role.
Today, I continue to support the Branch as Chairman and Members Secretary, and for the past five years, I’ve helped organise two local areas for the Poppy Appeal.
Each month, I also help run the Waterside Veterans Coffee Club, offering a friendly and supportive space for our veterans. Once a week, I call and host bingo for our club members, and I regularly attend local events to promote the many benefits of joining the Royal British Legion.
Find out more about our Treasurer, Mrs Lucy Pullin.
I volunteer for the Royal British Legion because I deeply admire its unwavering commitment to supporting veterans and their families. For me, this is an opportunity to honour those who have sacrificed so much for our country, and to help ensure they receive the care, recognition and support they so rightly deserve.
I have strong, long-standing family ties with the Legion. My son is currently serving, my husband is a veteran, and my grandparents dedicated many years to their local branch committee. The sense of camaraderie within the Legion is incredibly motivating, and being part of a community that is so dedicated to honouring our heroes is truly fulfilling.
I’ve always enjoyed being actively involved in my local community, and serving on the Fawley RBL Branch Committee has been both a privilege and a very rewarding experience.
