On Thursday the 15th September 2016 an Unveiling of a Centenary Victoria Cross Stone was dedicated at the Bramley War Memorial in Leeds for Lance Sergeant Fred McNess VC, Scots Guards.   L/Sgt Fred McNess was awarded the VC for his bravery on the 15th September 1916 at the Battle of the Somme(exactly 100 yeard ago).  The Lord Mayor of Leeds Councillor Gerry Harper and Councillor Caroline Gruer laid wreaths along with the Grandchildren of L/Sgt Fred McNess.
