Statement from Diss Council,
Remembrance Day 2020
Diss Town Council will mark Remembrance Day 2020 with a short ceremony and wreath-laying tribute.
On Sunday 8th November 2020 representatives of key local organisations will independently pay their respects to those who fought for our country by laying wreathes. This will be followed by a short act of remembrance by the Reverend Tony Billett on the Market Place.
Regrettably, due to COVID-19 and the restrictions around social gatherings, a larger public event is not possible this year. However, photos will be taken and shared through our website and social media channels.
To ensure the event remains COVID-secure, we respectfully request that members of the public do not attend. Please be assured that if government guidance changes to allow public attendance, a further announcement will be made.
This important day will also be marked by personal and private tributes from members of the community, including schoolchildren who will be decorating stones to place at the war memorial alongside the wreathes at St Mary’s church. We will also fly the Union Jack outside the Council Offices throughout the ceremony and the following week in honour of those who sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom.
“At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”
Updated information, there will be a Church Service followed by Wreath Laying at St Marys, which is by invitation only from Diss Council, with the relative Distancing.

10) Wreath layers will depart via the Church St gate once they have placed their wreath on the table.
