The Branch was formed as the County Holding Branch on 30 January 1995. However, Head Office decreed in (2012/13) that County Holding Branches would be subsumed into the National Holding Branch (Pall Mall) unless run under proper Legion governance under the auspices of the Royal Charter and Management Handbook. This effectively meant becoming a fully functioning branch actively supporting the aims and traditions of TRBL. This challenge was accepted by the Branch which is now in the forefront of fundraising, remembrance and welfare activities throughout the county. It has its own dedicated War Memorial on Dartmoor.
