BRANCH GENERAL NOTICES
BRANCH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The Branch Annual General Meeting will be held on October 2025 in the Carlisle ex-Services Men's Club starting at 7.30pm sharp. All members have been notified by Email or post.
EMAIL OR POST?
If you receive correspondence from the BRANCH by post, it is because we do not hold an identifiable Email Address for you. If you have an email address, it will save the Branch considerable expense if you would send an email to stanwixcarlisle.secretary@rbl.community so that it can be added to the Branch Email Group. We ensure that no one other than the branch secretary will be notified of your email address, unless you give permission to do so.
All emails are sent out as “blind” copies.
Branch Community Support (BCS)
Branch Community Support is a network of dedicated and compassionate RBL volunteers committed to alleviating loneliness within the Armed Forces community. Through regular calls or visits, BCS Supporters offer friendship and kindness to our beneficiaries while promoting a strong sense of community connection.
Members of the public and veterans (and or their families) may approach branches
for a range of support. Examples include wanting to meet like-minded people, learn
more about RBL and how we support veterans, offer fundraising ideas, ask for
assistance from a Standard Bearer or seek support around a veteran’s individual
needs or loneliness. It may be appropriate to signpost them to branch events or
initiatives like veteran's breakfast clubs. This can be a great way to combat loneliness
as it encourages friendship and camaraderie.
If an individual states that they would specifically like a home visit or phone call from
the branch due to social isolation or they have another support need, this must be
directed towards the Contact Centre for the reasons above.

THE WORLD WAR ONE MEMORIALS PROJECT.
Some 72 locations have been identified in the Carlisle City Administrative area where there is at least one WW1 Memorial. For those with access to the internet, please look at the Branch Website as shown on the front page and then “WW1 Heroes Walks of Honour” where you will see evidence of the great amount of work that has gone into this project.
CARLISLE’S NEW GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE
THE MEMORIAL GARDEN

A quiet area has been created in front of the main doors of St Cuthbert’s Church and designated as a Garden of Remembrance. The Branch Members have funded a stone ringed area where Remembrance Crosses and other tributes can be placed at any time. In the same way as Remembrance Crosses in London are placed in the hallowed grounds of Westminster Abbey and not at the Cenotaph, it hoped that the people of Carlisle will use the Garden of Remembrance rather than leaving Remembrance Crosses at the City Centre War Memorial.
POPPY SHOP IN THE LANES

With the help of the management of The Lanes Shopping Centre, the Branch establishes a Poppy Shop in The Lanes during the Poppy Appeal. This is a retail outlet for Poppy Shop Items normally only available on-line or from the Poppy Shop Catalogue. We sell in the region of £9,000 worth of goods each year and take donations of almost £6000.
If you have retail experience and would like to assist with 3 hour shifts between October 2025 and November 2025, please email stanwixcarlisle.secretary@rbl.community with your contact details.
