About Us

The Royal British Legion is the UK's leading Armed Forces charity and one of its largest membership organisations. Our aim is to provide care and support to all members of the Armed Forces, past and present, and their families.

As a local branch of The Legion we organise a host of welfare, social and fundraising activities. Though the public are most aware of us during the Poppy Appeal and the time of Remembrance in late October/mid November we work all year round to support the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families. 

We receive fantastic support and care from the majority of the public during this time, but if you would like to do something more to help The Royal British Legion, then here are some suggestions.

Become a Member of the Branch

Membership is open to everyone who has an interest in The Legion and would like to help us in the support and help we give to those who have served and their families. Find out more about our Branch and to join the Royal British Legion here. Alternatively, attend one of our monthly Branch Members' Meetings and sample the local atmosphere before joining. You will be most welcome. 

Get Involved with our Fundraising Activities

Whether it’s by arranging an event and making a donation or by getting involved with our branch’s own fundraising events, we’re always looking for those generous enough to give their time to The Legion’s cause. Alternatively, you can always visit The Royal British Legion Poppy Shop for something to show your support with all profits made going towards the help we provide. Or give a donation to The Royal British Legion to help provide our welfare and support work.

Meetings

The Carlisle and Stanwix Branch meets at 7:30pm on the Second Wednesday of the month at the Carlisle ex-Service Club, Albert Street (junction of Victoria Place).See Map

Any visiting members of the Legion and other Service and ex-Service personnel are welcome to join us.

We provide financial, social and emotional care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces - past and present and their families. The Legion is also the national Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the nation and its Armed Forces and is best known for the annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem the red poppy.

Founded in 1921, the Legion is not just about those who fought in the two World Wars of the last century, but also about those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting for the freedom we enjoy today.
