poppy field

Byfield & District Branch

Tomorrow

Looking over no man's land I see a vast expanse of deserted emptiness.

Every day I look over it reminds me of my friend who went through pain and finally died.

Old rotted trees stand motionless in the mud.

Nothing is growing.

All that remains is a big muddy field.

That doesn't matter... All I care about is if I am here...

TOMORROW!

This poignent work was hand written and signed "Callum"; it included a good drawing of a WW1 Soldier and was obviously meant to be that Soldier's thoughts at the time.

Unfortunately we have no other information about Callum. We did have a competition for youngsters going-on at the time and this was an entry from Byfield's junior school but it was some years ago. If Callum recognises his work, please get in touch...
