Southwest Northants' Tribute for The RBL's GP90
Sadly, it appears only four families are left in our whole District that required our GP90 representatives to take a tribute to leave in Ypres, as a mark of respect to their ancestors or friends who perished in the First World War.
We therefore decided to create a Roll of Honour of those 237 men remembered on our District's villages' War Memorials, which we left in an appropriate place in Ypres on 8th August this year of 2018. We also included the twenty-five other men plus ONE woman named on those memorials, who died in the following conflict. Apart from one lady's Christian name, the majority of those remembered are prefixed only by initials. Because of the times, we have therefore made the assumption they are all men.
That tribute took the form of an individual scroll for each War Memorial with all the names displayed thereon recorded in print, with all those scrolls rolled into a 20cm long weatherproof tube that was left with the four crosses by the Northamptonshire Regiment's Memorial near the Menin Gate in Ypres. The tube also contained a letter, in French, to the citizens of Ypres.
All those names can be found in our Remembrance pages on this Web site, which includes a sub-page for each village.
