VJ DAY 2025
On Friday 15th August 2025 there was a service of Remembrance at the Town War Memorial to remember the 80th Anniversary of the VJ Day and the end of the second World War.
The service was led by Rev Suzie Fryer, padre of the Burnham-on-Crouch Branch of the Royal British Legion with members of Churches Together in Burnham. Mr Charles Anderson DL read an extract from King George VI’s speech and the names of those on the Burnham-on-Crouch 1939-45 War Memorial were read out before the Last Post, two minute silence and Kohima Epitaph. Wreaths were laid by Mr Anderson, Mr D. Bown, the town Mayor and Mr D Fagg, the RBL Branch Chairman.
On Sunday 17th September in St Mary’s Church there was a service of Thanksgiving and prayers for peace for the 80th Anniversary of VJ Day, led by Rev. Fryer and Rev Anne Sardeson, minister of Burnham URC. Mr Anderson was also present with the Town Mayor and other Councillors. During the service 5 candles for peace were lit.
The Standards of the local branches of the Royal British Legion, the Air Cadets, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and the Scouts were on parade at both services.
