Dave Ball

Dave Ball

Dave was placed in a Barnado Home in 1942 and, in 1948 with his brother and sister, went to South Africa. He ran away from home at 16 and joined the SA Army. He left for the Merchant Navy but decided he could walk farther than he could swim and came home to sign up with the British Army in the Bedfordshire/Hertfordshire Regiment and later the Royal Anglian Regiment. He served in Germany, Malaya and Singapore for a total of 14 years. Photo taken while Dave was serving in the South African Army with the Witwatersrand Rifles.
