The photo was taken in May 1955 at the then RAPC training depot at Devizes, Wiltshire. After passing out Basil was attached as a Unit Pay Clerk at the Royal Armoured Corps Depot at Bovington Camp, Dorset, during which time he undertook all the same duties as the RAC, guard duties, ceremonial parades etc. Demobbed in May 1957, he comments: "I can honestly say that I enjoyed my two years in HM forces."
