Our Red Poppy is a symbol of both Remembrance and is the hope for
a peaceful future.
We aim to wear our poppies with pride and support for the men and women of Britain’s and the Commonwealths Armed Forces, who played a vital role and have given the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives in order to protect our freedom.
The Poppy Symbolises:
• Much of the fighting during WW1 took place in Western Europe.
The countryside of Flanders was bombed, fought over repeatedly.
Previously a beautiful landscape turned to mud; bleak and barren where
little or nothing could grow.
Or so we thought:
• Through the bleakness, a stunning exception grew, the bright red Flanders poppies. The poppy was as tough as the soldiers that fought through the chaos
and destruction, and thousands upon thousands of poppies continued to grow,
even to this day.
This Remembrance Weekend falls on Sunday 10th November with Armistice Day being commemorated on Monday 11th November at the Brackley Memorial, Town Hall Square. Brackley Town Football Club welcomes Darlington Town FC as our visitors and will we look to commemorate with our opponents on this day, with words shared by
Rev Robert Wood,
who will say a short prayer followed by a minutes silence prior to kick off.
Our wreath will be carried onto the pitch by two of our younger playing members
and escorted on to the pitch by our Club Captain Gareth Dean.
We will remember them!
