A piper and RBL Standards was in the Market Place and marched up to Legion House for the reading of the Proclamation and the raising of the VE Day flag.

That evening, the Tower Captain and his team of bell ringers joined churches up and down the country ringing the church bells so bells could be heard ringing out in celebration of peace. Then, the Beacon Lighting Ceremony took place that included remembrance speeches by the Mayor and others, hymns, and culminated with the lighting of the beacon.
