🔴 VE Day 80 Commemoration - Thursday 8th May 2025
Thursday 8th May 2025 will mark the 80th Anniversary of the end of World War 2 in Europe – VE Day.
10.50am (for a 11.00am start) at The War Memorial
The community are invited to join us at the War Memorial where The Royal British Legion Bishop’s Stortford Branch will be organising a commemoration ceremony in Castle Park, led by Branch President John B Robinson AFC*. The ceremony will include songs and poetry from our local schoolchildren and youth organisations, the VE Day 80 Tribute and the Kohima Epitaph. We will be joined by local dignitaries, veterans and Royal British Legion Standards.
At 11.00am St. Michael’s Church bellringers will ring out a peal of bells to mark the occasion and we will be handing out VE Day 80 flags to children who come along.
2pm - Afternoon Quiz at South Mill Arts
The Royal British Legion Bishop’s Stortford Branch will be holding a quiz in the bar area at South Mill Arts commencing at 2pm. There will be no charge but of course donations to the Poppy Appeal will be very welcome. Booking is essential as there are a restricted number of places available.

3pm - We will be showing a recording of Winston Churchill’s announcement of peace in Europe.
RBL VE and VJ Day commemorative badges and other RBL merchandise will be available for a donation to the Poppy Appeal. We would like to thank South Mill Arts for allowing us to host this event in their bar area, which will be open for refreshments to be purchased during the quiz.
7pm - Celebration Event for VE Day 80th Anniversary at South Mill Arts
The unique 1940’s Blitz Show & Dance Band, Five Star Swing, will be performing. Famous War-Time tunes & “sing-a-long” songs brought to life by the singers and multi-instrumentalists. As featured at Dame Vera Lynn’s Charity Gala Nights.

🔴 Bishop’s Stortford Carnival and Fun Day - Saturday 21st June 2025
We will be taking part in the Carnival Parade and our RBL Gazebo will be set up on Sworders Field for the Fun Day. The Carnival Parade departs from South Mill Arts at 11.15am. The Carnival Fun Day on Sworders Field is from 12pm – 5pm.
🔴 VJ Day 80 - Friday 15th August 2025
We plan to commemorate VJ Day in a similar way to VE Day – further details to follow.
