Bingham is a market town in South Nottinghamshire, situated between Nottingham and Grantham just off the junction of the A52 and the A46.

The Bingham Branch of The Royal British Legion was formed in 1923 from an organisation called the Bingham Club.

Like most Legion branches, it was formed shortly after WW1 to provide support to needy ex-Service personnel and their dependants.

Over the years, the Branch has expanded to cover many of the outlying villages in the South Nottinghamshire area. Some of these villages had Legion branches but falling numbers made it difficult for them to continue. Two such branches were East Bridgford and Orston. The East Bridgford branch closed down completely and many members joined the Bingham branch. Orston, however, wanted to maintain local contacts for welfare and fundraising and asked Bingham to take over their general administration. Orston therefore became a Sub-Branch of Bingham for some time, but is currently a separate branch in it's own right.

In 2010 the Bingham Branch affiliated with 1936 (Newton) Squadron Air Training Corps and currently enjoys a number of mutual activities.

The Bingham Branch is also affiliated to the Bingham Detachment of the Army Cadet Force and works closely with the local schools, especially at Remembrance time.
