Branch Chairman's March Update
April 2025
Along with Branch Secretary Gavin Eastwood, Branch Committee member Billy Scott and Poppy Appeal Organiser Colin Gillen, I attended the funeral of former Branch Committee member John Glass on 10th April. It was very well attended and it was clear how well respected John was within the local area. He will definitely be missed by all of us that knew him and we should keep Shirley and the family circle in our thoughts.
Recently, I attended the Branch Chairman's Seminar in Ballymoney. It was good to see those that attended, including our Interim District Chair. It was a great day with lots for us to take forward.
I am also pleased to see the number of responses to our VE Day 80th Anniversary Act of Remembrance, especially given that it is mid-week during the school term. Hopefully the good weather continues that day. The Veteran's Breakfast has been booked and paid for. It will be in the Town Hall on 10th May. Please publicise these events as much as you can.
Also, don't forget about Armed Forces Day. It will be held in Newtownards on 21st June 2025. If you can go, then please do so. Wilson Murray has arranged a bus, let him know in-person or through the Branch Secretary if you wish to avail of this.
I also plan to represent the Branch at Islandbridge again this year. Although I understand that not everyone may be able to go as it falls on 12th July, I would strongly encourage everyone to attend this tremendous event. I am checking with other Branches to see if they are organising a bus to Islandbridge and will report back.
Dennis.
