The Royal British Legion continues to spend around £1.7 million per week to provide help, welfare and support to serving and former members of the Armed Services, and to their families. The RBL is unlike many other charities in that it does not differentiate between who receives this support, all Services are treated as equals regardless of where they served.  In this way the Royal British Legion remembers the past, deals with the present, and looks to the future needs of those beneficiaries to whom they are dedicated to serve.

The funding to provide all this comes from many sources.  The Poppy Appeal accounts for less than half of all the money needed to provide this support.   The Branch’s largest single fund raiser for our local collection is our Annual Remembrance Concert in the Market Place Theatre.  There are still tickets available for this year’s Concert.  Please encourage friends and family to come along and enjoy an evening of entertainment and remembrance.

The N. Ireland District Chairman asked that his heartfelt thanks be passed on to every Poppy Seller who give so generously of their time and effort to make it possible for the Royal British Legion to deliver to the needs of the Servicemen and Women and their families, and to those in the Ex-Service Community who depend on this support and help.  I would like to add my own personal thanks to each one of the volunteers in the Armagh area who work selflessly to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal – our Branch, and indeed the Royal British Legion as a whole, is enriched by your contributions of time and commitment.

I would also like to thank the people of the district, the retailers and businesses, Churches and Schools and our local Councillors who support our Annual Appeal year after year, and who donate so generously.  We are so very grateful for all of this generous support.

There are currently 33 Poppy sellers working voluntarily on behalf of this Branch.  Those 33 volunteers account for a current total of 432 years of service!!  Please give them all a round of applause.  It is now time to ask the Lord Mayor to present those Poppy Sellers who are due to receive an award for their service with their individual certificates and badges.
